True 4K60 Live Broadcasting Studio – NYC LiveX Studio Tour
In this video episode of the World Studio Tour, on PTZOptics Live, we tour the LiveX 4K NYC broadcast studio. Rob Baynard from LiveX, takes us through their complete 4K Resolution 60FPS live video production equipment workflow which Baynard says is “the only true 4K60 video production studio in NYC”. Rob also promised to answer questions after the broadcast and gave us his email address: [email protected]

4K60 Live Broadcast Studio
4K60 Live Broadcast Studio
It’s no easy feat building a true 4K60fps studio. Baynard explains how everything in the video production broadcast chain has to use 4K resolution compatible products. This includes 12G SDI cabling or 4K60FPS compatible HDMI cables. Luckily the studio and equipment rack are close together and the cabling needed does not need to be extended beyond 100 feet (30 meters).

4K 60 Studio Rack
Extendable Martin Equipment Rack
Space is a commodity in New York City and live streaming broadcast studios in Manhattan are always trying to save space. Rob shows us in this live studio tour that his Martin broadcast equipment rack can be pulled out on rails for maintenance. Rob pulls the entire equipment rack out on rails full of BlackMagic switchers, monitors and other 4K broadcast equipment for easy access to all of the cabling.
Blackmagic 4K Input Switcher
Baynard shows us his 2 ME BlackMagic broadcast switcher and we had to ask what is a “M.E”. ME stands for Mixed Effect inputs which allows broadcasters the ability to create mixed effects to switch between. This broadcast switcher is completely built with hardwired HDMI and/or HD-SDI inputs and does not use any network IP video. In fact, the folks at LiveX are not fans of compressed IP video such as the NewTek NDI.
